2011 Boxing Day Equipment Drive in Full Swing
The International Cricket Council (ICC) East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Development Programme once again in partnership with Australian based charity Cricket4Kids would like to announce the beginning of the 2011 Boxing Day Equipment Drive.
The Boxing Day Equipment Drive involves public donating new and used cricket equipment during and after the Boxing Day Test match at the MCG. A cage manned by national players from East Asia-Pacific countries will be located outside the entrance to the MCC members at Gate 2 of the MCG during the Test against India for people to drop donated gear. Alternatively if you are unable to make it to the ground email luke@cricket4kids.org and we will arrange to collect the gear from you.
The equipment is collected by Cricket4Kids and then together with the ICC is shipped all over the world to be used by underprivileged kids to both promote cricket and provide children in developing countries an opportunity to participate in sport and live an active healthy lifestyle.
The 2010 equipment drive saw the generosity of the Australian public donate over 1.5 tons of equipment that included over 250 bats, 670 balls, 300 sets of pads, 110 helmets as well as many more items such as keeping gear, clothing, shoes, stumps, hats and cones for training and much more. This gear was shipped out to 12 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
The East Asia - Pacific region has a long and proud history of cricket, and is represented by ICC Associate Members Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Japan and Vanuatu and ICC Affiliate Members Indonesia, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Philippines and South Korea. With over 150,000 participants throughout the region eager to learn the skills of cricket, providing quality equipment has never been so important.
This year with such a rapid increase in junior participation across the region we would particularly love to receive any plastic cricket bats/stumps, new and used cricket balls, senior and junior bats as well as tennis balls. However as always if you have any pre-loved gear in a reasonable condition it is welcome for donation and we will find a home for it.
