The 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup was held in the UAE and Oman, from 17 October to 14 November 2021. As part of the pre-event activities, all teams were briefed by the Integrity Unit on Anti-Corruption, Anti-Doping, Security, Safe-guarding and Mental Health. The key theme of the anti-corruption briefing focused on the impact of engaging in corruption on others, family, friends and awareness of the risks of social media and the role its plays in corrupt approaches.

In addition, prior to travelling to the event, a specific focus was placed on Associate Members who had limited exposure to global events, given most corrupt approaches will occur prior to a tournament. Players and staff were provided with an overview of the current corruption environment, including how to recognise an approach, reject and report it. The success of the early intervention was evident when a few players came forward to the ICC ACU after their session to report suspicious messages they had received.

Over the coming weeks and months, the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup (14 January – 5 February) and Women’s World Cup (4 March - 3 April) will see various ICC Integrity staff deployed to the events in West Indies and New Zealand.

Throughout 2022 there are 18 Global Pathway Events scheduled, including the Men’s CWC League 2, Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, and the Men’s CWC Challenge League. In addition, there are 5 Regional Pathway Events being held in Europe, which include Men’s T20 World Cup Europe, U19 Men’s Europe and the U19 Women’s Europe Qualifier. In recent years the ICC regional teams have proactively provided integrity support to these events on our behalf, including the provision of anti-corruption briefings. The deployment of an ICC ACM depends on the assessed integrity risk and resource availability.
