21 March - Hamilton - India player Sneh Rana pre-match press conference
**Reporter:**Best of luck for the match. How is the mood in the camp? Are you planning to make some changes as a team?
Sneh: The team management will decide on any changes. However, the mood in our team camp is positive. When you lose a match it tends to lower your confidence. However, as a team unit, we have sought positives out of that.
Reporter: Apart from the Australia one, the two losses were heavy ones, what are the kind of conversations the senior players have had with the youngsters playing in the first World Cup. This being a high-pressure tournament and India has to win the remaining matches.-
Sneh: There is always a healthy conversation between seniors and juniors. The seniors never pressurized us as it’s a first World Cup campaign for almost all of us. They always share from their experiences. Even during the New Zealand series, they were planning for upcoming games and they were supporting us.
Reporter: Jhulan is your key bowler. How important it is to manager her workload? Are there any discussions about giving her short or long spells?
Sneh: She has come a long way and she knows how to manage her workload. She is a legend, obviously, so we do not need to tell her about her workload. The management and medical teams have discussion it and adjust these sort of matters.
**Reporter:**In New Zealand, the boundaries of most of the grounds are short. If you are going to bat first , do you keep this factor in mind and go for 15-20 runs extra as boundaries are short and defending is always tough in these sort of grounds.
Sneh: Yeah boundaries are short but we never think of going to the crease and just start hitting hard. Obviously, every batter likes to play according to the conditions and ball to ball. In my view, ball by ball game technique automatically adds more runs. So we never give it a thought that boundaries are short and we need to go for big hits to add extra runs to defend or otherwise we will be all out.
Reporter: I wanted to inquire about your own performance. Whenever you came into play either bowling or batting you have contributed for your team in this World Cup. This is your first World Cup and you are figuring in good partnerships and taking wickets at crucial times in bowling. How does it feel to perform in your first World Cup campaign?
Sneh: See, when you perform well on such a huge platform, obviously you feel good. When I performed in the first match of my first World Cup, I was pretty happy at that time. However, on such a huge platform you can’t be happy with just one performance. You need to do more and perform well in most of the games. I want to perform whenever my team needs me to perform.
Reporter: Bangladesh have played very close games in this World Cup, so how challenging will it be to be up against this side. Your thoughts about the match against Bangladesh as it is a must win game for India.
Sneh: If Bangladesh are part of this World Cup, it means they have performed well in the past to be at such a huge platform. I have seen Bangladesh improving. We are playing match by match, irrespective of who it is against - Bangladesh or any other team. We won’t take any match easy. As it’s a must win game, we will give our 100%.
Reporter: Indian batting performance has been bit up and down. India scored 270+ against Aussies but did you people discuss that the team was still short of few runs. What were the rights and wrongs in that match?
Sneh: Ups and downs are part of the game in either department. While moving on to the next game, we always take positives from the previous games. Our batting unit is doing well now and hope will do well in upcoming matches as well. We always have healthy discussions. We can’t change the past but we can perform well in upcoming matches as a unit.
Reporter: Have you taken into consideration the weather and NRR in the coming match? What are team plans regarding it?
Sneh: Weather is a natural thing. We can’t control it. Our first priority is to win the game then comes the NRR depending upon the situation.
Reporter: All 15 are available and fit?
Sneh: Yes, all 15 are fit and available
Reporter: It’s a must win game for India and the weather forecast does not seem to be in your favor as there are chances of rain in the match. So, in this scenario your game result won’t be enough for the semi-finals qualification, rather you will be depending upon other team results as well. How are you still motivated to focus on your game and to perform well?
Sneh: Weather is a natural thing we can’t control it. However, as a unit we are very positive. It’s a must win game for us and we will give our best.
Reporter: Herman has the role of an all-rounder in the team but her bowling skills were not utilized. Is there any discussion on why she was not made to bowl or are there any plans to make her bowl in the coming matches as she is a very good spinner?
Sneh: I won’t be able to say anything about this matter it all depends on the team management and captain’s decision.
Reporter: I would like to discuss about your performance. When in every match, the team depends upon you for breakthrough, what is your mindset at that time? You are an attacking bowler. Especially in the match against the Aussies, you were asked to bowl to beak the century partnership stand. What were you plans which helped you to get the desired result?
Sneh: I always have a positive mindset that whenever your team needs you, you must be 100% ready to contribute. I just plan to get a breakthrough for my team. It’s just simple. We have worked hard for many years, so go and perform well. That’s it.
Reporter: Do you try some sort of variations while bowling or any specific plan which you think that I will be best to get break through.
Sneh: Yeah, I have two weapons, one quicker delivery and another sliding delivery outside. I try these ones.
