31 March - Christchurch - England player Danni Wyatt post-match press conference
Reporter: Firstly, I just wanted to know what your feelings were after your maiden World Cup century?
Danni Wyatt: Yeah, obviously really chuffed with how it went today. Yeah, woke up this morning and really wanted to contribute to a win today and that's what happened obviously, got dropped a few times but that's cricket and you've got to cash in on days like today so yeah, really happy with how it went.
Reporter: Obviously reaching the final look to a big long shot after the first three defeats How do you feel the squad and you personally have sort of reacted to that and come together to get this far?
Wyatt: Yeah, well every game since has been a knockout match so today was like any other match that we've played in the last few games and yeah, after those first three games didn't think this would be the case so yeah, prepare well for the final and we obviously really want to win that trophy now after the start we had especially.
Reporter: Finally for me just a word on Sophia Austin's to experiment how important that was in the second innings?
Wyatt: Yes, Soph bowled exceptionally well again today, she's an absolute goat and I'm so tough for that's going to be the first of many fifer's and yeah, she was absolutely unplayable today especially with that pace and dip – bit of turn as well that she was getting, I actually said to Nat on the pitch, how she'd actually go in men's international cricket. I think she's bowling exceptionally well at the minute and she's not fun to face in the net. So that's for sure.
Reporter: Can you just talk about your own personal journey, please. You've been up and down the order in the 2013 and 2017 World Cups you've got left our other side. So how much does it mean to you personally after having such a mixed career really?
Wyatt: Yeah, I've had a weird career, especially in my ODI career been up and down like a yo-yo. But I'm happy about wherever the team want me to bat. Yeah, obviously been given the chance to open the batting, which is where I want to bat and it's my, my job to get the team off to a good start and take the opportunity. And yeah, really trough of how it went today. And hopefully, this can be the start of a long, successful career at the top of the order.
Reporter: And you said after the Pakistan game, that even after the three defeats it was your dad who was always saying that England were going to win the World Cup. Just talk about that and the belief that that he's giving you what you might be saying to him tonight.
Wyatt: Yeah, that doesn't say much. But he sends me the odd text. And he's I told you, that's another way and you're going to win the World Cup. You're going to win it. So yeah. Hopefully we will win it now. And we'll do it for Stevie Wyatt.
Reporter: Looking at yours in Australia's performances they both been in semifinals, they've both been pretty dominant and even Alyssa Healy both made your maiden World Cup tons with a 129. Was it a case of anything the Aussies can do we can do just as well.
Wyatt: No, I didn't really think about them. Yeah, I just went out there and obviously wanted to wanting to get the wind today and make the most of what was a really nice wicket and the ball was bowled exceptionally well as well to keep them to that total on that wicket.
Reporter: You found yourself in a pretty tricky situation early on and do or die situation after those three losses in the first three games. You as a team obviously have that experience of playing big games in big tournaments. But we also saw some youngsters like Charlie and Sophia Dunkley coming in and soaking in that pressure straightaway, and putting out some crucial performances for the team. And obviously now you are in the finals. What do you think, has been that critical factor that has helped these youngsters come in and perform like that in such situations also?
Wyatt: I think Heather Knight the way she is around the group, she brings a calm influence to the group And Lisa our coach, I think that helps and we really back our youngsters, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley they've really come in, and I swear they don’t even get nervous. And then yeah, they've definitely got long careers ahead of them. They've been playing exceptionally well throughout this tournament, and really trough for them both.
Reporter: That was a lovely century to watch as well. All of the teams that we've been speaking to, some of them have left the tournament, some are still there. They speak about the importance of a domestic structure. You're someone who's traveled all around the world, you've played games even within these domestic leagues in multiple countries as well. So how do you sort of see the English system helping this team be as successful as it is?
Wyatt: Yes, very true. been lucky enough to play around the world in domestic tournament's like the Big Bash. And obviously, we've got the KSL, the 100, Rachel higher Flint trophy, which is obviously really good for back home and gives others an opportunity to show off their skills at the top level and to play with and against some of the best players in the world - clearly benefit to our players. And yeah, just to play around the world, it's a really good experience.
Reporter: What's the mood been like, behind the scenes? Cuz obviously, you've all been away from home for a really long time. There's been a lot of ups and downs like how have you stayed mega motivated? What's it been like, to be able to sing the team song and all of the above?
Wyatt: Yeah, I'm not going to lie. It has been really tough. But it's brought us all together and yeah, it's really important that when we get our downtime, we can switch off from cricket and go and explore New Zealand - I feel very lucky to be here. It's a beautiful country, and there's loads to do. So whether it be go out for coffee with the girls or getting your own space, then that's really important. And then when we have got training, to be switched on, and be able to perform well and yeah, we've got one last push now. It's been the longest route we've ever had. So yeah, one last push, and we want to take the trophy home with us and have a well-deserved holiday afterwards.
Reporter: I just want to go back to the PC before the West Indies game where you had spoken about how it could potentially be the last World Cup for few of the players in this World Cup and how we just want to enjoy every moment that you get in the field. How much has that kind of an attitude helped in the way the team has performed since, in the last five games?
Wyatt: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if that's been on anyone's mind but I think we've just been taking each game as it comes. We've been preparing well. We've been enjoying each other's company off the pitch and just giving our all whenever we've got the opportunity and yeah, what will be will be in Yeah, hopefully we take the trophy home as well now.
Reporter: My question is you told ECB in that video they posted a while back that the Ashes 100 is your favorite England innings ever - Do you have a new favorite now and what makes this special in your career? It probably wasn't the most typical Wyatt Wyatt innings was it?
Wyatt: Yeah, I mean, I got dropped a few times, but you just got to cash in on days like that and yeah, it's definitely up there. One of my favorite knocks to help us contribute to a win to get to the World Cup final. I mean, doesn't get much better than that. Well, yeah, really trough of how it went today.
Reporter: My question is about Charlie Dean, you have played with her in the Southern and you have seen her grow throughout the 100 and even when she was playing under Heather Knight opposite yo. So a word on her, she has been that cool calm head in this unit and has grown leaps and bounds throughout her career.
Wyatt: Yeah, Charlie's been amazing. You know she's come in and performed really well. She's one with the most wickets taken this tournament, Enough in phases Dino. She's been working really hard. So I'm really chuffed for her. And she's performed well, last few years with the southern Vipers back home. And then the 100 for London spirits. So now she's showing off here on the world stage how good she is.
Reporter: My question is to you is that how the multi format cricket has helped you a lot, like the woman's has a multi-dimensional series – bilateral series – how has this helped England cricket.
Wyatt: Yeah, it's obviously helped - like I said before, we've got the 100, we’ve got the Rachel Flint - We've got the Edwards cup. And we've got loads of cricket back home and it's a great standard. And yeah, it's just good to play with and against some of the best players in the world and that can only benefit us.
