Afghanistan announce squad for upcoming India series

Afghanistan have announced their squads for the upcoming ODI and Test series against India, with Hashmatullah Shahidi set to lead both sides.

The Test match will mark Afghanistan's first red-ball meeting against India since 2018, when Afghanistan made their debut in Test cricket.

The notable absentees from the Afghanistan Test squad are star spinner Rashid Khan and batter Ibrahim Zadran, although both players have been included in the ODI squad for the series against India.

The one-off Test squad features maiden call-ups for Nangyal Kharoti, Bilal Sami and Rahmanullah Zadran, while spinner Qais Ahmad returns to the setup.

Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai have also been included, with both players having featured in just one Test match so far, against Zimbabwe in 2024.

Meanwhile, India will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah in their squad for both legs of the series.

The series will begin with the solitary Test on June 6 in New Chandigarh.
