Afghanistan batter fined for ICC Code of Conduct breach

Ibrahim Zadran has been fined following Afghanistan’s third ODI against Bangladesh. 

Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran has copped a 15 per cent fine for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during his team’s recent ODI outing against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Ibrahim has been found guilty to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

The incident occured during the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings when after Ibrahim hit some equipment near dressing room while returning to the pavilion following his dismissal.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Ibrahim’s disciplinary record, making it his first offence in a 24 month period.

Ibrahim admitted to the offence and has accepted the sanction proposed by Graeme La Brooy of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, leaving need for a formal hearing.

The game saw Afghanistan wrap up a 3-0 series sweep over Bangladesh following a 200-run win.
