All-round Shrubsole shines in rain-hit game

A half-century by Tammy Beaumont was backed up by late hitting from Anya Shrubsole, who returned to take two wickets in an excellent spell of bowling at Worcester on Sunday, 9 June.

Beaumont brought up her milestone after a rain break that reduced the match to 41 overs, but with Afy Fletcher getting rid of her and Sarah Taylor in consecutive balls, England were pegged back.

Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt made brisk runs, but it was Shrubsole's two sixes and as many fours in a 16-ball 32 that propped the total up to 233/7.

Hayley Matthews got a start in the chase, but for the second consecutive game, the West Indies suffered a collapse. Shrubsole took two wickets, while Kate Cross had a remarkable 2/4 in four overs.

When the rain came again after 28 overs, West Indies were well behind the asking rate, finishing on 87/6. Laura Marsh, who was playing her 100th ODI for England, celebrated with one wicket.

Picking up another two points, England, the World Cup champions, have thus established themselves in second place on the points table.
