Anything is possible: Pattinson
England’s latest seam offering Darren Pattinson is hopeful of making a mark for England in the future.
The seamer who was picked in place of Ryan Sidebottom for the second Test against South Africa is sure that his selection will not be a one-hit wonder.
“I know that my next chance might not come straightaway. But I'd like to think that I can be involved again further down the track. It's happened a few times in my career when I've been picked out of nowhere. At the moment I feel that anything is possible," Pattinson told the Press Association.
Pattinson returned with figures of 2 for 95 in his debut game which his side lost by 10 wickets to the Proteas. England still has two more Tests to go where they will look to avenge defeat from South Africa who have taken a 1-0 lead in the four-Test series.
Formerly a roof-tiler in his native Australia, Pattinson took to cricket by chance and has never looked back since. A former Pura Cup player for Victoria, Pattinson says, “I'm a resident in Australia when I'm there so there was never a decision to make between playing for England or Australia.”
Speaking about the welcome he received when he first stepped into the national dressing room, Pattinson said, “It was a bit tough walking into the dressing room for the first time, but the guys welcomed me with open arms.”
Reminiscing his debut Test match for England, Pattinson said, “It's been a big week for me, and obviously I was nervous at first. But I relaxed as it wore on, and in the end it turned out okay. The first wicket was a bit lucky, because the replays showed that it might have just missed the stumps. But I got the ball to move a bit and had (Ashwell) Prince caught behind.”
