Athapaththu’s majestic spell guides Sri Lanka to mammoth win  

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu led from the front as they breezed past Indonesia by 75 runs.

Defending a target of 125, Athapaththu snapped seven wickets, which included a hat-trick, and gave away only five runs in 3.3 overs. 

The bowling figures are now the fourth-best bowling figures in Women’s T20Is. It's only the sixth instance of a bowler having picked up seven wickets or more in a Women's T20I.

Having been put in to bat first, Sri Lanka were put under pressure by the Indonesian bowlers.

The defending champions were reduced to 62/6. Nilakshika Silva would go on to revive the innings, scoring 50 runs off 35 deliveries. The innings included three fours and one maximum. Sri Lanka posted 124/7 in their quota of 20 overs.

In their chase of 125, Indonesia were unable to form a partnership as Sri Lanka were on the offensive from the get-go.

Athapaththu removed both openers, Maria Corazon and Rahmawati Pangestuti, as well as her Indonesian counterpart, Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini, in the powerplay.

She eventually wrapped up the game with a hat-trick to dismiss Indonesia for 49 in 18.3 overs.

Also among the wickets were Kawya Kavindi, Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari as Sri Lanka registered a second successive win at this Asia Cup and are currently top of Group B.
