Australia A grab win in dramatic finish

Australia A have snatched victory against Pakistan A late in the final session to win by 101 runs in the second four-day game at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.
The hosts grabbed six wickets in the final session to snare the win, dismissing the visitors for 198, thanks mainly to the efforts of spinner Jason Krejza (4-54) and speedster Doug Bollinger (3-54).
Starting the day at 5-368 the hosts went in search of quick runs before declaring at 9-402, leaving Pakistan with the target of 300 to get in the remaining minimum 81 overs in the day.
Australia A skipper Cameron White said he was extremely pleased with the result after team worked hard throughout the series.
"It was obviously a good result, good to get a win," White said.
"I thought the boys deserved to win, we played the better cricket over the two games so I was just happy that we were able to get the win today.
"It shows recognition to the guys and a good result for all the work we have put in, I think we toiled hard."
White said the four-day contests had been enjoyable and he was pleased the way the team played good attacking cricket.
"I think the win summed up that Pakistan probably didn't try and win, they were set 300 runs off 80 overs at around four an over, so I think they'd be pretty disappointed with the way they played today," the 26-year-old said.
"I think they would regret their decision not to try and win the game, it was a very generous declaration on a very good batting pitch at four or three-and-a-half runs an over."
Although it got tight towards the end with the final two Pakistan batsmen hanging on, White said he was confident his bowlers would get the result.
"There was about 12 minutes to go or about three overs so it got a little bit tight, but I just thought our boys deserved the win to show that we were the better team over the course of the two matches," the captain said.
"We knew their tail wasn't that flash so we knew if we could hang in there was a chance we could get the last few in a hurry.
"Two wickets in an over from Doug were good and for Dutchy (Jon Holland), to get the last wicket I thought was well deserved."
For Pakistan, Azhar Ali was the top scorer with 73 from 191 deliveries, while Umar Amin also chipped in with 30.
The series heads to Brisbane now for three one-day matches and a Twenty20 encounter at Allan Border Field, with the first match getting underway on Friday, play starts at 9am and tickets are available from the gate.
