Australia call-up Under-19 World Cup star to face India

An impressive young quick added to Australia's squad to play India to allow a pair of experienced pacers to prepare for the Ashes.

Uncapped quick Mahli Beardman is in contention for an international debut after he was added to Australia's squad for the final three matches of their T20I series with India.

Beardman is one of four players added to the squad as Australia re-shuffled their troops for the T20I portion of the India series as a host of experienced stars drop out to prepare for the Ashes.

Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (games 3-5), left-arm quick Ben Dwarshuis (games 4-5) and keeper-batter Josh Philippe (all games) are the other players added to the Australia squad alongside Beardman, who earns a call-up after a pair of strong performances in domestic cricket earlier this month.

Beardman was part of the Australia squad that won the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa last year, with the right-armer claiming 10 wickets for the tournament as the Aussies claimed a fourth title.

The addition of the extra players to Australia's squad allows experienced pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott to skip the backend of the series and instead concentrate on fine tuning their Ashes preparation with the red-ball at domestic level.

The Aussies have also added uncapped all-rounder Jack Edwards and spinner Matt Kuhnemann in their squad for the final ODI against India in Sydney on Saturday, with top-order batter Marnus Labuschagne dropping out of the squad so he can play at domestic level with Queensland.

Australia hold a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series following a narrow two-wicket triumph over India in Adelaide on Thursday.
