Bangalore thrash Otago Volts by 80 runs

A spirited all-round show from Jacques Kallis helped Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash Otago Volts by 80 runs in their Champions League Twenty20 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. A top class performance by the Bangalore Royal Challengers has propelled them to the next round.

After shining with the bat, Kallis came back to haunt Otago Volts and claimed three wickets at the expense of 18 runs in 4 overs. He was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

Anil Kumble and Vinay Kumar claimed two wickets apiece.

Otago Volts had a forgettable day and are now out of the tournament as they lost two games in a row.

Batting first, Jaques Kallis smashed a blazing unbeaten 73 to power Royal Challengers Bangalore to a massive 188 for two against Otago Volts in their do-or-die Group C match. Kallis batted through the innings after rattling up a splendid 75 runs for the opening wicket with Robin Uthappa after opting to bat.

Ross Taylor played an incredible unbeaten 11-ball 32-run cameo late in the innings to lift his side to a challenging score as the hosts' top order fired in unison. Taylor player punished his country-mates with his ruthless batting, fetching 24 runs in the last over in which he hit three sixes and a boundary.

Kallis played a measured innings, a cocktail of aggression and composure as his 73 came off 59 balls and contained four boundaries and two sixes. Uthappa was also in great touch as controlled his innings well.

He took 31 balls for his 42, which had five fours and two shots over the fence. Kallis and Uthappa began on a cautious note and opened up after getting their eyes in but still managed a run-rate near six run per over.

Both the players were timing the ball well but not getting gaps as charged up Otago fielders pounced on all the shots, saving quite a few runs.
