Bangladesh make fresh vice-captain appointments across formats
With the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 coming up alongside a host of World Test Championship matches, Bangladesh have confirmed a series of deputies in the leadership department.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board have made few tweaks to their leadership unit across formats, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Saif Hassan being appointed as vice-captains in Test, ODI and T20I cricket respectively.
Hasan Miraz has been appointed vice-captain of the red-ball side, serving as deputy to skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. Shanto has been confirmed to serve as captain atleast until the end of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Bangladesh were victorious in their latest Test match against Ireland by an innings and 47 runs as they lead the series 1-0 with the second Test scheduled to begin on November 19 in Dhaka.
It is the other way around in the One-Day format, as Shanto will serve as Miraz's deputy. The latter was announced as captain in June this year for a one-year term.
Meanwhile, opening batter Saif Hassan has been recognised for his good performances in T20Is as he has been appointed as deputy to Litton Das. The all-rounders has impressed in his 18 T20I outings for the Tigers, proving valuable with four half-century plus contributions fown the order.
Das was named captain of the Tigers' T20I side in May this year, and will lead them going into the Men's T20 World Cup in 2026.
Before that, Bangladesh will take on Ireland in a three-match T20I series starting November 27 upon conclusion of their ongoing Test series.
