Bangladesh up the ante in search of Women's World Cup glory

A second appearance at the Women's World Cup has Bangladesh doing everything they can to ensure they perform well.

Bangladesh are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

A host of Bangladesh's World Cup hopefuls are currently taking part in a three-team Challenge Cup tournament in Savar and the group will head to Sylhet early next month for a nine-day camp that will include a trio of practice matches under day-night conditions.

The Sylhet camp will prove pivotal for Bangladesh as they attempt to improve on their sole victory at the most recent Women's Cricket World Cup in 2022, with the side looking to finalise their 15-player squad for the 50-over showcase at the start of next month.

The practice matches under lights in Sylhet will also be crucial for the side, who are scheduled to play all seven of their World Cup games at this year's event under similar conditions as day-night contests.

Chief selector Sazzad Ahmed Shipon said it was important for his players to get used the conditions they will face at the Women's World Cup when the 13th edition of the tournament commences on September 30.

"After the tournament (the Challenge Cup), the girls will rest for six days," Shipon confirmed to The Daily Star.

"Then the team will move to Sylhet, where they will practice for nine days. We will also play three practice matches under lights at that time. Apart from that, there will be match scenarios as well.

"We will then travel back to Dhaka and practice here under lights for three days. Then the team will travel to Colombo on September 23."

Upon arriving in Colombo, Bangladesh are scheduled to take on South Africa and Sri Lanka in warm-up matches for the World Cup ahead of their tournament opener with Pakistan on October 2.

The upcoming tournament will be just the second time Bangladesh have played at a Women's World Cup, following their seventh-placed finish in New Zealand during their inagural appearance in 2022.
