Bangladesh, which looked somewhat overawed by the occasion in its opening encounter against India on Tuesday, will be looking to forget that performance and move on.

Jahanara Alam, its captain, reiterated that the day before the England match several times. “We want to forget everything and move forward,” said Alam, when asked if her team was overly nervous when it faced India on Tuesday. “We have the confidence to bounce back and are thinking only about playing England tomorrow.”

Alam’s team was comprehensively outplayed by the host, with all its three departments failing to fire. “We misfielded a lot, our bowlers bowled the wrong line and the batting line-up did not click. So we are looking to improve in all three departments against England and perform better,” said Alam. “We know that if we apply all we know — not to misfield, to bowl in the right channel, and to look to score off every ball and put away the loose delivery — things will work out. Nothing is impossible.”

Against England, it has to raise its game several notches if it wants to even challenge the former world champion.

“We just want to learn from our mistakes. Before every match, any team wants to win so we will go into the match with that attitude. England is a very good side, but we are not thinking about that. We are thinking simply about playing our game,” stressed Alam.

While Edwards wanted to use the match to adapt to the conditions, Bangladesh will want to put on an improved performance and try to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. After all, ‘nothing is impossible’.
