Bangladesh's Sohag Ghazi fined and reprimanded for showing dissent

Bangladesh's Sohag Ghazi has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and reprimanded after pleading guilty to a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day's play in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Monday.

Sohag was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel (the "Code") which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match".

After the end of penultimate day's play, the all-rounder admitted to the offence and accepted the proposed sanctions offered to him by David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge had been laid by the on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Nigel Llong, third umpire Tyron Wijewardene and fourth umpire Sena Nandiweera.

The charge related to an incident in Bangladesh's innings when Sohag, after being given out, pointed to his arm and then walked towards the pavilion indicating again to the Sri Lanka team that the ball had hit his arm.

All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
