Basin Reserve - Venue

Basin Reserve is home of some of New Zealand most famous cricket moments. The oldest cricket ground in NZ features large grassy banks, the Basin offers a serene viewing experience.

Basin Reserve was built in 1866 over a swamp. The original layout of the Basin Reserve was rectangular, large enough to fit two soccer fields. This meant that it was not uncommon for several club cricket matches to be played at the ground at once.

New Zealand’s first Tests were played against England in 1930.

Today, the Basin Reserve has seen more New Zealand Test matches, and Test victories, than any other ground. It has also been the venue for some of the most remarkable performances in our cricketing history; from JR Reid’s 15 sixes in a first-class innings to Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones’ World Record partnership of 467 in 1991, and Brendon McCullum’s historic score of 302 in 2014.

Basin Reserve will host 7 matches of the CWC22, including a semi-Final on 31 March 2022.

ENTRY INTO THE VENUE

As per Government guidelines in New Zealand's response to COVID-19, all patrons over the age of 12, legally, must keep a record of where they have been. This requires everyone over 12 years of age to scan a QR code or sign in upon entry to the venue. Patrons may be refused entry if they do not scan or sign in.

All patrons must be fully vaccinated in order to attend the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup matches and will be required to present their COVID Vaccination Certificate upon entry into the venue.

Once inside the grounds, patrons must adhere to the COVID safety protocols. Please wear a mask at all times while moving about the venue including at food outlets and bathrooms. Maintain social distancing recommendations when queuing and in the separated spectator zones.

There will be hand sanitiser stations placed throughout the venue for patrons use.
