BCCI announce three-team Women's Twenty20 Challenge
The tournament will be the second year in a row that the BCCI are hosting a women's T20 exhibition series – last year, the Supernovas and the Trailblazers clashed in a one-off encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
A new team – Velocity – will join the Supernovas and the Trailblazers this year. The teams will play against each other in a round-robin stage on 6, 8 and 9 May, before the top two sides clash in the final on 11 May, a day before the IPL men's final in Hyderabad.
"The teams will comprise current and future stars of Indian cricket playing alongside a selection of the world’s best players," the BCCI said in a release. "The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket."
The composition of the teams is yet to be announced, but according to reports in Indian media, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana will captain the three sides.
