Bellerive Oval

Sydney has Balmain, Melbourne has Williamstown, Perth has Fremantle…and Hobart has Bellerive, an historic harbourside hub that’s home to Bellerive Oval. On the sunny eastern shore of the River Derwent, the ground is a 10-minute drive or ferry ride from central Hobart’s buzzy waterfront.

Bellerive Oval first hosted formal cricket matches in 1914, but it wasn’t until 1987 that Cricket Tasmania upped stumps and relocated here from the other side of the river. The oval has been upgraded significantly over the years: the Ricky Ponting Stand opened in 2015 in time for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, boosting ground capacity to 20,000.

Bellerive Oval currently hosts domestic and international cricket matches over the summer months, and Australian Football League (AFL) games in winter. Don’t miss the Tasmanian Cricket Museum while you’re here: everything you ever wanted to know about David Boon, Tim Paine, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Wade, Max Walker, Amy Smith, George Bailey…
