Bismah Maroof returns to Pakistan squad, Javeria Khan stays on as captain
Maroof took over as captain of the Pakistan side following the Women's Cricket World Cup 2017, after which former captain Sana Mir relinquished her role. Javeria initially took over as a stop gap when Maroof required sinus surgery, but has retained the role even with Maroof returning.
The PCB have indicated that Maroof might return to the role at a later date, with the decision to allow Javeria to continue entirely her own. The decision was made to lessen her workload while she continues to recover from injury.
A dependable batter, with 18 international half-centuries, Maroof will be key to Pakistan's chances at the Women's World T20, while Javeria has 18 international fifties as well as a pair of ODI centuries. Her time in charge so far has been mixed, with Pakistan claiming a T20I series against Bangladesh before heavily losing the sole ODI, while also being whitewashed by Australia in both the T20I and ODI series.
Dauntingly, Pakistan's Women's World T20 campaign begins on 9 November against Australia.
