Daryl Mitchell will stay in Christchurch for a scan on his left groin after helping New Zealand to a seven-run win over the West Indies.
Mitchell, who scored his seventh ODI century, did not return to the field for the second innings at Hagley Oval.
The scan will determine the likelihood of Mitchell's involvement for the remainder of the ODI series with Henry Nicholls called into the squad for cover.
The second ODI against the West Indies is on Wednesday in Napier with the third and final ODI in Hamilton on Saturday.
