Bonner and Mayers among four new names on Windies' contract list

Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua Da Silva and Kyle Mayers have all earnt their first national red-ball contracts after impressing in the Test arena over the past 12 months, while Akeal Hosein has done the same in white-ball cricket.

Former Test captain Jason Holder is the lone player among the 18 to have been offered an all-format contract, with current Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite one of eight to have earnt a red-ball deal. The remaining nine players have been given retainers for limited-overs cricket.

The size of the group has been trimmed down from 22 last year, and the contracts will run from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 30 2022.

“I am happy for all the players who have been offered retainer contracts for the upcoming period,” Jimmy Adams, CWI Director of Cricket, said. “Especially pleasing was the number of players who were awarded first-time contracts in recognition of their performances during the period under review.”

While there was good news for Bonner and company, 11 players from last year’s contract list missed out.

“I know that the eleven players who have lost their International retainers will be striving and fighting hard to get back into the teams and earn their central contracts back next year,” Adams said.

“ These players, along with our T20 specialists, will ensure that we have genuine competition for places that will push everyone to attain higher standards of performance.”
