South Africa batter Tazmin Brits is keen to defy her age and continue playing until the next edition of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

Brits was a relatively late starter to cricket, with the former javelin star not making her international debut until 2019 and her first ODI match didn't come until 2021.

Since then Brits has appeared at consecutive 50-over World Cups in 2022 and 2025 and the 34-year-old played a major role in helping the Proteas into the title decider against India in Navi Mumbai last month when she scored 235 runs across the tournament that included a superb century against New Zealand.

A classy century from Tazmin Brits stole the show in South Africa's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 clash against New Zealand.

But despite the next edition of the World Cup being four years away, Brits has no plans on slowing down and is keen to prolong her career and help South Africa go that one step further in 2029.

“Funny enough I actually said to the coach (Mandla Mashimbyi) when I rejoined the team, because before the World Cup final he called a few of the senior players and said this might be our last one," Brits told SABC Sports.

"I said to him he mustn’t get rid of me yet, I will definitely try and stay fit as possible and improve on my game. I would like to play one more ODI, I don’t think I am done yet, hopefully another four or five years to go."

If Brits does continue until the next World Cup she knows she must continue to evolve her game and the hard-hitting right-hander only recently returned to the international scene during the ongoing ODI series at home against Ireland.

Brits has managed scores of 27 and six in two innings since last month's World Cup final and the aggressive batter was especially disappointed with her dismissal in the opening match of that series when she holed out to Laura Delany after getting the Proteas off to a solid start in pursuit of 210 for victory.

"I didn't play the shot through, tried to place it between the two fielders but the coach said if I ring through, I will probably hit a six," Brits noted.

"But you learn from these, sometimes you got to generate more power and yes it wasn't a great shot."
