Brook makes ODI history with record-fastest double ton
England’s white-ball captain produced a monumental outing against Sri Lanka in the ongoing tri-series.
Harry Brook scored the fastest-ever double century in ODI cricket history as England amassed a whopping 429/4 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Brook (202) clinched his maiden double ton in the format off 116 deliveries, one ball quicker than India captain Shubman Gill’s recent knock against the West Indies.
Meanwhile, Brook also became the first-ever England batter to score a double ton in the format. The previous highest individual score for England belonged to Ben Stokes (182 against New Zealand in 2023).
The innings will provide a big boost to England as attention turns to next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027.
The team total marked the highest-ever in Men’s ODIs in Pakistan, and is also the fourth-highest score for England in the format.
Coming on the back of a defeat against hosts Pakistan in the ongoing tri-series, England scripted a power-packed effort with the bat.
While Tom Banton (50) and Ben Duckett (29) had got off to a comfortable start in the powerplay - adding 74 runs for the first wicket - both the openers fell in quick succession.
Brook then combined alongside Joe Root (69) and Will Jacks (66*) to accelerate England’s innings in Rawalpindi.
The England skipper smashed 21 fours and 10 sixes through his monumental knock, making up for the most runs by an England batter through boundaries in a single ODI innings (144).
The record knock came to an end off the final ball of the innings as Janith Liyanage struck to remove the England captain.
Both England and Sri Lanka are searching for their first win in the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan, having lost their opening fixtures against the hosts.
