Canada announces team for ICC Americas Div 1

Cricket Canada is pleased to announce the following squad for the ICC Americas Division 1 Twenty 20 tournament taking place from 17-25 July in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Canada has elected to send a mainly developmental squad to the tournament while several players are being rested ahead of the upcoming ICC Intercontinental Cup, ODI and T20 Matches against Afghanistan.

Vice President Vimal Hardat is confident the team will put up a showing in the America's tournament.

"Having already qualified for the ICC World T20 Qualifier (in 2012) we saw this as a good chance to have some of our prospects test themselves as well as to give our more senior players a chance to get ready for Afghanistan."

Rizwan Cheema,Hiral Patel, Ruvindu Gunasekera, and Parth Desai headline the list of players staying in Canada to prepare for Afghanistan while Harvir Baidwan and Khurram Chohan are due to arrive shortly back from successful stints in England.

The team leaves on 16 July for Fort Lauderdale from Toronto.
