Canada profit from increased exposure

Canada's matches in the Caribbean T20 are being streamed live by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

Starting with the opening match against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday - a game that ended in a nine-wicket defeat - the nation's three group fixtures will be shown on CBCSPORTS.CA along with the tournament's semi-finals and final.

Cricket Canada President Ranjit Saini believes the move is a significant step in the game's development in his country.

"We certainly see this as a turning point for Canadian cricket and hope it represents the start of a new era, where cricket gets the exposure and recognition it deserves in this country," he said.

"We have the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) to thank, as without their generosity first in welcoming us into their national event, and then in working to secure the broadcast rights, this simply could not have happened."

Geoff Barnett (37 from 33 balls) was Canada's most impressive batsman in a difficult start to their campaign, coming against the leading T20 side in the Caribbean.

Slow left-armer Parth Desai turned in an encouraging display with the ball at the Kensington Oval (4-0-16-0) but T and T reached their target of 111 with 35 balls to spare.

Canada's next match comes on Saturday against Jamaica before they complete their Zone A campaign against Leeward Islands on Wednesday.
