Canada Regroups to Win T20 on Final Day

Canada secures victory in the two exhibition T20 matches held at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City on July 17, after winning both games by eight wickets and 38 runs respectively.

In the first match of the day the USA won the toss and elected to bat. They produced 113 runs for 7 in their twenty overs, with notable contributions coming from Nadia Gruny (27) and Candacy Atkins (20).

In reply Canada made light work of the modest target and reached 114 for the loss of 2 wickets from 17 overs. The talented teenager Mikaela Turik contributed 45 not out which secured her the player of the match award. Turik was well supported by Suthershini Sivanantham with 31 not out. The partnership yielded 55 runs to see the host home.

During the second match of the day, Canada won the toss and elected to bat. They set the large target of 145 for 5 after their 20 overs. Significant contributions came from Monali Patel (37), Suthershini Sivanantham (24), and Mona Persaud (24 not out).

The USA in reply was unable to keep up with the required run rate and could only muster 107 for 4 from their allotted twenty overs. This was after openers Rajashree Mahale with 24 and Doris Francis with 23 put on a 59 run partnership for the first wicket.

This was a noticeable boost for the Canadian team after losing all three of the fifty over World Cup Regional Qualifier matches earlier this week.
