Chigumbura claims top honours
Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura won top honours at the annual Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) awards night last week.
Chigumbura was among a host of other winners from Zimbabwe's franchise and national cricket set-up who were honoured at an event in Harare. The awards were given away for the 2009-10 season. The keynote address for the awards night was delivered by the legendary former West Indies captain Brian Lara.
Chigumbura was away playing for Northamptonshire in English county cricket, so he could not collect his award in person. "The last twelve months have been special for Zimbabwe Cricket and for my career, firstly getting a county contract and being appointed Zimbabwe national team captain. I want to thank everyone who has helped me reach this point," Chigumbura was quoted as saying in a ZC release.
The other winners included leg-spinner Graeme Cremer who won bowler of the year award. Vusimuzi Sibanda was awarded batsman of the year honours.
Sharne Meyers walked away as the female cricketer of the year, while Zimbabwe A coach, Stephen Mangongo retained his award as the coach of the year.
