Chris Rogers joins Ryan Harris as CA High Performance coach
Former Australia Test cricketer Chris Rogers has been appointed Cricket Australia’s (CA) new High Performance coach, the CA announced on Wednesday. He will take charge of the batting component of the CA Specialist Skills programme, and work alongside fellow High Performance coach Ryan Harris and National Performance programme head coach Troy Cooley.
Rogers, 40, has been with the CA in a variety of coaching roles since 2015. He was recently Australia’s assistant coach at the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. He was also assistant coach for two CA XI teams during Ashes tour matches in the summer. He has previously coached the U19 sides in 2015 and 2016, and had a stint as batting coach and mentor for Somerset last year.
Rogers, who enjoyed a successful career with five Test centuries in 25 matches at an average of 42.87, will be based in Brisbane at the National Cricket Centre in his new role. Pat Howards, the CA Executive General Manager - Team Performance, was delighted to have him on board.
“We’re excited to have Chris on board, and know he will be an outstanding addition to our coaching team,” he said. “Chris brings thoughtfulness, persistence and passion to the role and combines this with a strong intellect. He has a wealth of cricket experience that will be invaluable to the players he will be working with. He enjoyed a successful career at both international and first-class level, succeeding in Australia and overseas.
“From a coaching perspective, Chris has already been involved in roles with Cricket Australia’s pathways programme – including as assistant coach at the recent Under 19 Cricket World Cup – and in the English County system.
“We’re looking forward to having Chris work with Australia’s next generation and watching him develop as a coach. We are confident he can have a big impact in moulding our rising stars into future international cricketers.”
Rogers will begin his new duties in May and is contract through to mid-2020. His first assignment will be to work with the National Performance Squad, the three-month academy programme for emerging cricketers in Brisbane.
