Clinical South Africa chase 90 to make it 2-0
South Africa Women made quick work of Bangladesh Women in the second one-day international at Potchefstroom on Sunday 6 May, beating them by nine wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
An opening burst by Ayabonga Khaka reduced Bangladesh to 10/3, and they never quite recovered. Set a low target of 90 for victory, South Africa openers Laura Wolvaardt and Lizelle Lee added 65 runs in 11.4 overs for the first wicket and rendered the chase a mere formality.
Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 37 with four boundaries as South Africa knocked off the required runs in just 17.1 overs. She had Trisha Chetty for company at the other end on 13.
Salma Khatun was the only Bangladesh bowler to pick up a wicket. She had Lee (32) caught by Sanjida Islam.
Earlier, Khaka's pace had the top three back by the sixth over, dismissing Islam (5), Murshida Khatun (1) and Fargana Hoque (0) in her first spell. While Islam and Hoque were bowled, Khatun was caught behind by Chetty.
Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed and wicket-keeper batter Nigar Sultana attempted to put together a partnership. However, their efforts were cut short by Masabata Klaas, who got the captain caught behind to leave the visitors tottering at 28/4.
At 45/8, Bangladesh were in danger of being bowled out for a sub-50 score. Tailenders Panna Ghosh and Jahanara Alam added 37 runs for the ninth wicket. Ghosh remained unbeaten on 20 off 54 balls with two fours, while Alam was dismissed for 18. She hit four boundaries in her knock.
Ntozakhe did much of the damage, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 89 in 39.5 overs.
Khaka (3/13) and Ntozakhe (3/16) picked up three wickets each while Klaas, Chloe Tryon and captain Dane van Niekerk all had one.
