Coetzer's century goes in vain

Earlier, asked to bat, captain Aaron Redmond (71) and Michael Bracewell (65) set the foundation for Otago from the outset with solid half-centuries, sharing an opening stand of 138. After Redmond fell, Otago lost two quick wickets to slide to 161 for 3. Iain Robertson (51) then stabilised the innings before wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder’s quick-fire 37-ball 69 helped the team cross the 350-run mark.

Michael Leask returned figures of 3 for 58 in 10 overs for Scotland. Although Iain Wardlaw went wicketless in this game, he finished at the top of Scotland’s wicket-takers for the tour with ten wickets in seven innings.

Scotland won two games out of the seven it played. In its first win of the tour, Scotland picked up a thrilled ten-run win over Tasmania. A 51-run stand between Hamish Gardiner and Richie Berrington (30) and some late hitting from Matty Cross (64 not out) helped Scotland post 244 for 8, that proved enough to edge past Tasmania, that was bowled out for 234. In the game against Wellington, it recorded a convincing 91-run victory after Kyle Coetzer and Preston Mommsen scored half-centuries to help Scotland reach 277. The bowlers backed that with a splendid performance to help bowl the New Zealand side out for just 186 in 46.2 overs. In its first game in New Zealand, against the New Zealand XI, it nearly pulled off an upset, but went down by one run. Chasing 264 for victory, Scotland was dismissed for 262 in 50 overs.
