Former soccer boss lands top job in Fiji

The ICC EAP Development Program and Cricket Fiji are pleased to announce that Australian Martin Shaw has been appointed Cricket Fiji General Manager, selected from a strong field of over 40 applicants from all over the world.

Mr. Shaw has an outstanding management and administrative background in elite-level sport, having had previous experience as CEO of Table Tennis Australia, and for the past 3 years as CEO of Football Federation Tasmania.

Cricket Fiji Board Member Omid Saberi said,” We at Cricket Fiji are very excited at the appointment of our first ever General Manager, and are extremely happy with appointing such an experienced administrator, and we are sure that Martin will take cricket to a new level in Fiji.”

Mr. Shaw is extremely pleased with his appointment and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. “It is obviously an important time in the developing world of cricket, with increases in funding from the ICC, and I believe that Cricket Fiji is in a position to make enormous strides both on and off the field.”

“With an important World Cricket League tournament later this year, improvements in governance and administration still to come, and the continuing development of cricket at the grass-roots level, it is an extremely exciting time to take on this role and I look forward to working with the Cricket Fiji Board and staff members to continue to drive our key strategies.”

ICC EAP Regional Development Manager Matthew Weisheit wishes Mr. Shaw well in his appointment. “The ICC EAP Development Program is continually driving the need for professional administration and good governance structures in Member Countries, and this is a very encouraging appointment and we look forward to working with Martin and the Cricket Fiji team to continue to progress the sustainable development of cricket in Fiji.”

Cricket Fiji is an Associate Member of the ICC, and the National Men’s Squad will be competing in World Cricket League Division 4 to be held in Tanzania from 4th to 11th October 2008.
