Cricket Fiji pays Tribute to Fiji Rugby
Cricket Fiji would like to pay tribute to Fiji Rugby for their support of women's captain Losalini Harford during their Rugby World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
Harford, who has captained Cricket Fiji's women's team since their inception last year, suffered a massive stroke in Auckland on August 21.
She has been slowly recovering since and Fiji's rugby team took time out of their RWC schedule to visit Harford who originally hails from Lasekau Village in Bau.
Cricket Fiji chief executive Jon Symonds said he was grateful to the support shown by the Flying Fijians.
"We thank them for taking the time and effort to go and visit Losi. It is a fantastic display of support," Symonds said.
"Losi is a fighter, a trait she is well known for on the cricket field, and we know she can make it through this difficult time."
"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Fiji cricket community are with Losi and her friends and family."
Harford, 38, is a former New Zealand representative and has previously captained Wellington in their domestic women's competition.
She is Fiji's most experienced player and has captained them in their two international tournaments, in Vanuatu this year and Samoa the year before.
She has a four-year-old son named Elijah and currently lives in Auckland.
Coach Steve Jenkin said Harford was a revered member of the squad by both her team mates and management.
"She is a real role model for the girls and one they look to for support and guidance during our tours and training," Jenkin said.
"We have been closely following her recovery and wish her all the best."
