Cricket for Good in the UK

ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 Nissan Trophy Tour
During May, the Nissan Trophy will be touring up and down the nation. Special stops have been chosen at selected UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools and Chance to Shine schools, offering pupils a wonderful opportunity to be involved in the action.
Cricket for Good Coaching Clinic
During the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup, each of the participating teams will help to deliver a special, one-hour Cricket for Good coaching clinic for schools. Schools involved with this activity will get the opportunity to meet and play cricket with some of the global stars of the game, as well as visit an international cricket ground.
A total of 16 Cricket for Good coaching clinics will be delivered throughout June and July by the eight teams participating in both tournaments, with pupils set to enjoy fun-filled sessions led by the likes of India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Meg Lanning.
Match Days
Before the start of every ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup game, the two participating teams will take part in a national anthem ceremony. As part of this ceremony, 56 children from a mixture of UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools, Chance to Shine Schools and local cricket clubs, will get the chance to be either “flag bearers”, presenting the national flags for each team, or “anthem kids”, walking out to the middle and lining up with their heroes to sing the national anthem. They will also get the chance to play on the outfield during the interval of each match.
Over the course of the two tournaments, more than 2,500 children will get to enjoy this experience across the 46 matches.
The ICC Women’s World Cup will get underway with a bang on Saturday 24 June in Derby, where more than 200 local schoolchildren will perform in a specially choreographed opening ceremony before the start of play in the England v India match.
Women’s cricket is developing at a pace, with more women and girls than ever before now playing the game. This summer’s ICC Women’s World Cup presents the ideal platform to inspire even more girls and boys to play. To support this, 10,000 bat, ball and bag gifts will be distributed to young people, free of charge, at selected matches this summer – putting a bat and ball into the hands of the next generation of players.
Free Schools Ticket Offer
Up to 4,600 overs will be bowled during the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer, and in a bid to ensure that as many of these as possible are seen live in the ground by a passionate, young crowd, the ICC has worked closely with the England and Wales Cricket Board and the host venues to provide schools across the country with access to free tickets for pupils to both tournaments.
A free ticket offer for schools is available for all 31 of the ICC Women’s World Cup matches, including the two semi-finals in Bristol and Derby on Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 July respectively, and the coveted final at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday 23 July. This offer also exists for selected ICC Champions Trophy fixtures across the three host venues – Edgbaston, Cardiff Wales Stadium and the Oval.
Cricket for Good Resources for Schools
While not every school or pupil will have the opportunity to see the trophies, practice with the teams or take part in the national anthem ceremony, every school does have the chance to bring the excitement of the tournament into the classroom through a new, cricket based resource. This set of six resource cards, developed by Cricket for Good for use in primary schools in the UK, combines opportunities to get active, develop cricket skills, undertake exciting projects and learn about the rights of children around the world.
