Cricket Ireland website short-listed for prestigious award

The official Cricket Ireland website www.cricketireland.ie has been nominated in the sports category for the prestigious Eircom Golden Spiders Awards.

The new website for cricket's National Governing Body went live in May 2012, with the primary aim of bringing 'cricket to all' as the sport continues to increase in popularity throughout Ireland.

The site has provided a platform for all Ireland's cricket fans from Ireland and further afield to follow the progess of everything in Irish cricket, from the Men's and Women's national sides right the way down to the grass roots of the game.

Since launching it has been hugely successful with visitors from 145 countries, a sure indication of the popularity and global reach of Ireland's cricketers worldwide.

Cricket Ireland Marketing Manager Andrew Leonard said: 'It's fantastic news that cricketireland.ie has been nominated for the Best Sports Website Award at the Eircom Golden Spiders 2012.

"It speaks volumes of the growing interest in cricket here in Ireland and in Irish cricket from right around the world. The website will continue to try and support that interest by being evolutionary and engaging for all of our visitors.

"To be nominated alongside names like Rory McIlroy and thescore.ie is a great achievement and much credit must go to our web developers Eyekiller and all their staff, as well as everyone who visits the website regularly."

The Cricket Ireland site has incorporated 'CricHQ', the World's most advanced cricket app to provide Live ball-by-ball scoring and further analysis of Ireland's cricket matches online. Cricket Ireland's partnership agreement with CricHQ means that the service is provided directly through www.cricketireland.ie

The website provided exclusive behind the scenes coverage of Ireland's cricketers with daily player diaries and updates, as they played in the final stages of a world tournament for a remarkable fifth time in six years at 2012 ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. The website also integrates closely with Cricket Ireland's social media activity through Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

The website was built by Northern Irish web developers 'Eyekiller', who are an award winning web agency who create digital solutions. Established in 2003, Eyekiller are a fast growing company that continues to provide high-impact websites for their clients.
