Cricket PNG appoint General Manager
The ICC EAP Development Programme and Cricket PNG are pleased to announce that Australian Bill Leane has been appointed General Manager of Cricket PNG, having been selected from a strong field of applicants from all over the world.
Mr. Leane has an outstanding management and administrative background in elite-level sport, with his most recent role being Marketing and Sponsorship Manager for the Australian Cricketers Association.
Chairman of Cricket PNG, Mick Nades, said, "We at Cricket PNG are very excited at the appointment of such a highly skilled and experienced candidate such as Bill to the position of General Manager. We are sure that he will take cricket to a new level in Papua New Guinea."
Mr Leane seemed extremely pleased with his appointment and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. "It is obviously an important time in the developing world of cricket, given the increase in funding from the ICC, and I believe that Cricket PNG is in a position to make enormous strides both on and off the field," said Mr. Leane.
"With a number of tournaments scheduled later this year, earmarked improvements for facilities and administration still to come, and the continuing development of cricket at the grass-roots level, it is an extremely exciting time to take on this role and I look forward to working with the Cricket PNG Board and staff to continue to drive our key strategies."
ICC EAP Regional Development Manager, Matthew Weisheit, stated that the appointment of Mr. Leane is part of an overall strategy to strengthen governance and administration within ICC Member countries.
"The ICC EAP Development Programme is continually driving the need for professional administration and good governance structures in Member Countries, and this is a very encouraging appointment, said Mr. Weisheit.
"We look forward to working with Bill and the Cricket PNG team to further progress the sustainable development of cricket in PNG."
Mr. Leane's first assignment in PNG will be to oversee the Pepsi ICC EAP U/19 Cricket Trophy, which Cricket PNG will host in Port Moresby from 31st May to 6th June.
Cricket PNG is an Associate Member of the ICC and the PNG national men's team is currently ranked 23rd in the world.
