Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the composition of a steering committee consisting both of Board representatives and independent members to lead discussions regarding the total restructure of CSA.

This is a follow-up to the resolution passed at the Board meeting on March 17 at which the decision was taken to set up the steering committee to ensure governance structures are put in place.

The members of the steering committee are: Dr Willie Basson, Messrs. Chris Nenzani, Archie Pretorius and Vuyo Ntswahlana (representing the Board) and Messrs. Rushdi Magiet, Shawn Christiansen, Alan Jordaan and Ashwin Desai (Independents).

All CSA affiliates will be asked to provide input to the committee who will provide guidelines for an indaba to be held later in the year involving the Board of CSA, sponsors and other stakeholders.

"This is a matter of urgency," commented CSA Acting President Dr. Willie Basson. "I would like this matter to be finished before our annual meeting in September."

The Board also decided to follow the guidelines of the Nicholson report in approaching the Chairperson of the Bar Council to appoint a senior counsel to chair the disciplinary inquiry of CEO Gerald Majola.

The issue of the bonuses awarded to CEO staff after the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was also discussed and it was unanimously resolved that any decision in this regard should wait until the outcome of the disciplinary inquiry. It would also be necessary to take appropriate legal advice.

Dr. Basson said he had been highly encouraged and impressed by the unified and positive manner in which the Board had tackled the recommendations of the Nicholson Committee. "The key approach has been to make principled decisions with a sense of urgency and at the same time acting in the best interests of CSA."
