CSA to ‘work hard to remedy’ Raisibe Ntozakhe’s action

The tests found that the 21-year-old’s action contravened Article 6.1.2 of the International Cricket Council regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions – all her deliveries exceeded the permitted level of tolerance.

Ntozakhe was reported during recent one-day international series between Windies and South Africa and subsequently underwent an independent assessment on 28 September at University of Pretoria.

The ICC made the announcement on Tuesday, 9 October, and Cricket South Africa said a day later that it “acknowledges and respects” the ICC decision, and has taken steps “to work with the player in the aim of rehabilitating her as soon as possible for her return to action”.

Ntozakhe, who has played 17 ODIs and 12 Twenty20 Internationals to date, will be based at the Cricket South Africa Centre of Excellence and work with Vincent Barnes, the High Performance Manager.

Crucially, Ntozakhe was a part of South Africa’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World T20 2018.

“The timing of this issue for Raisibe and for our World T20 squad is clearly inopportune but we need to deal with it. We will work hard to remedy her action and have her retested as soon as practically possible,” said Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

“We are fortunate to have invested in an ICC accredited Laboratory in South Africa and this will certainly make a quick turnaround possible.”
