Curran, Jaydev earn mega deals in IPL 2019 auction

Curran, who was named England’s Player of the Series in the Test series against India last summer, was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for INR 7.2 crore (approx. USD 1m), while Unadkat rejoined Rajasthan Royals for INR 8.4 crore (approx. USD 1.17m).

Shivam Dube, the Indian all-rounder who hit five sixes in five balls in the Ranji Trophy on Monday – on the eve of the auction – penned terms with Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 5 crore (USD 694,000).

Other high purchases included spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was sold to Kings XI Punjab for INR 8.4 crore (USD 1.17m) after five franchises fought for his signature, and South Africa batsman Colin Ingram, who was snapped up by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.4 crore (USD 889,000).

Young West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who impressed on West Indies' recent tour to India, was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 4.2 crore (USD 583,000), while fellow countrymen Carlos Brathwaite and Nicholas Pooran were picked up for INR 5 crores (USD 694,000) and INR 4.2 crores (USD 583,000) by Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, respectively.

England wicket-keeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow was in demand, eventually going to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 2.2 crore (USD 306,000), while ODI captain Eoin Morgan and all-rounders Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan went unsold.

Some of England's fringe players also received interest. Lancashire's Liam Livingstone joined Rajasthan for 50 lakh and Nottinghamshire's Harry Gurney signed for Kolkata Knight Riders for 75 lakh, who also grabbed Joe Denly – an unused member of England’s Test team in Sri Lanka, who made 409 runs at 37.18 in the 2018 T20 Blast competition in his homeland – for IRN 1 crore (USD 150,000).

Hanuma Vihari, currently on India's Test tour to Australia, was the first player to be picked up after Delhi Capitals, who sealed a deal for INR 2 crore (USD 278,000). Delhi also purchased all-rounder Axar Patel for INR 5 crores.

Elsewhere, India seamer Mohammad Shami was sold to Kings XI for INR 4.8 crore (USD 667,000), fellow Test paceman Ishant Sharma signed for Delhi Capitals for INR 1.1 crore (USD 153,000), and Mohit Sharma was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for INR 5 crore (USD 694,000) after sparking a bidding war.

India quick Varun Aaron was sold to Rajasthan Royals INR 2.4 crore (approx USD 334,000), with left-arm seamer Barinder Sran also finding a franchise as he went to Mumbai Indians for INR 3.4 crores (USD 472,000). In addition to Sran, Mumbai bolstered their pace option with the purchase of veteran Lasith Malinga for INR 2 crore (USD 278,000).

Later in the day, former India batsman Yuvraj Singh, looked like he was going to go unsold before the Mumbai Indians jumped in with a bid of IRN 1 crore (USD 150,000), while Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up New Zealand's Martin Guptill for the same price.
