Pakistan defeated New Zealand by four wickets in Lincoln

Aliya Riaz was the hero for Pakistan, bludgeoning an unbeaten 62 from 52 balls and hitting the winning runs in the final over of play.

Needing close to seven an over in the final ten overs to reach the target of 229, Riaz and Nida Dar struck eight boundaries to finish the job, carrying on from the likes of Sidra Amin (34), Omaima Sohail (31) skipper Bismah Maroof (28).

Nine White Ferns bowlers were utilised by Sophie Devine for the hit out, with Jess Kerr taking 2/30 from her seven overs.

Kerr also provided highlights with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 34 from just 27 balls, moving the tournament hosts to a seemingly defendable score.

Cruising at 142/2 through Maddy Green and Amy Satterthwaite's partnership, New Zealand lost 6/30 in their stumble before the late Kerr exploits. Nashra Sundhu played a starring role in the collapse, taking 4/32.

India defeated South Africa by two runs Rangiora

India's 244 looked a tricky proposition to chase down at Rangiora Oval, and the Proteas fell short despite the work of Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt.

Skipper Luus made a professional 96-ball 87, manipulating the field through smart batting with shots around the wicket, in spite of a green surface and a slow outfield. Wolvaardt was at her devastating best, hitting two sixes to go with seven fours, with Marizanne Kapp (40) carrying the bulk in the dying embers.

The efforts were in vain however, as Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed four wickets.

Earlier, Smriti Mandhana was hit by a Shabnim Ismail bouncer in the early stages of the encounter, retiring hurt on 12. The veteran didn't return to field at the start of South Africa's innings.

Harmanpreet Kaur's century was the shining light of India's innings, with Yastika Bhatia also making an important fifty to gain rhythm ahead of the tournament proper.

Australia defeated West Indies by 90 runs in Lincoln

A number of players contributed in Australia's thumping win over the West Indies at Lincoln Green, defending 259.

Annabel Sutherland's unbeaten 54 from 37 balls was perhaps the most encouraging knock in Australia's innings, lifting the side to an imposing total late in the piece.

Ellyse Perry made a trademark half-century as the glue of Australia's innings, though it was perhaps on the bowling side that accentuated Perry's class, and Australia's tournament favouritism.

Perry claimed Deandra Dottin and Kycia Knight in one over to curtailed the West Indian chase, before Alana King turned the screws with a double blow of her own.

Sutherland would then return to make an impact with the ball to claim the big wicket of Stafanie Taylor for 67.

The wicket any hope of a West Indies fightback, eventually falling well short.
