Cyprus, Austria and Luxemborg win on opening day of Div 4 Championships

Hosts Cyprus made a winning start to the European Championships World Cricket League Division Four in Limassol with a 105-run win over Switzerland, thanks to an all-round performance from the team.

Anil Nair smashed 103 from 114 balls with 12 boundaries and shared a second wicket stand of 96 with Mushtaq Kashif and 62 for the third with Udumulle Sirithunga as Cyprus totalled 277-8 in its 50 overs. In response, the Swiss could only muster 172 after Kapila Wickramathanthrigie picked up 6-40 to help collapse the batting order.

In the other games of the day, Austria enjoyed its biggest win by 117 runs on the opening day at Happy Valley, easing past Finland, which was bowled out for 147 in 44 overs.

Luxemborg defeated Slovenia by 99 runs, dismissing it for 126 in less than 44 overs, in a match which saw a total of 89 wides being bowled.
