David Talalla
Born in Malaysia but raised in Australia, David played cricket for Malaysia and made his national team debut in the 1994 ICC Trophy in Nairobi. He was promoted into the role of captain following an injury to Harris Abu Bakar on the eve of the event. He made 23 runs at number five in the opening match against the Netherlands and then went on to score the team’s only century – an unbeaten 112 against Gibraltar.
Since his retirement from professional cricket, David became an Elite Level Cricket Australia Match Referee, before taking up a role at the AFL as an umpire coach. He has extensive experience in the Inclusion & Diversity space working between the two codes and is a former Board member of the Victorian Interpretation and Translation Service. David is also a mentor to young African students, assisting them to assimilate into Australian society.
