Day 18 Talking Points: Dar spins a web as Pakistan seal a famous win
Seddon Park, Hamilton – Match 20
The veteran Nida Dar was in full flight in Hamilton, bamboozling the West Indies batters. On a pitch that was providing some assistance, Dar was at her majestic best.
Her first scalp was the dangerous-looking Deandra Dottin – outfoxing the opener with a caught and bowled for 27. Shemaine Campbelle would then be done by the flight as she charged down the track and failed to get any connection, to be dismissed for 7.
Dar would complete her spell by scalping two wickets off her final two deliveries. Kycia Knight would be the first of the two, holing out to mid-on for 8.
The final delivery yielded the wicket of Chinelle Henry for a duck, with Dar ending up with figures of 4/10 in her four overs, giving her side a brilliant chance to seal their first victory of the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Wicket: Four-for for Dar as Henry holes out
As brilliant as the Pakistan spinners were during their bowling innings, West Indies' batters were again exposed for their fragility against spin.
Six of the seven Windies wickets that fell were against spin – with Nida Dar scalping four and Omaima Sohail and Nashra Sundhu chipping in with one wicket each.
None of the batters looked comfortable against the flight and the Pakistan spinners, continuing the trend which has persisted throughout the tournament.
Going ahead, this will certainly be a major area of improvement for Stafanie Taylor and co.
M20 Innings Highlights: West Indies v Pakistan
Muneeba Ali, Bismah Maroof and Omaima Sohail all chipped in with handy runs as Pakistan finally tasted victory at the ICC Women's World Cup after 2009.
Ali set the tone with a handy 37 while Sohail and Maroof remained unbeaten on 22 and 20 respectively, as Pakistan won with eight wickets in hand. It was a complete performance from the side, delivering a massive blow to West Indies in their quest of qualifying for the semis.
But as Sohail hit the winning runs, it was a well-deserved win for Pakistan, as their 18-match losing streak in the tournament finally came to an end.
