· Career-high rankings for Guptill, Warner, Hales, Marsh, Ali, Rabada, Hazlewood, Abbott and Hastings; McCullum hangs up his ODI boots in 24th position
South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry have broken into the top five while Joe Root of England has vaulted into the top 10 for the first time in their careers in the latest MRF Tyres ICC ODI Player Rankings, which were released on Monday.
In addition to these, nine other players, who featured in the recently concluded South Africa-England and New Zealand-Australia series, have also achieved career-best rankings.
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has ended his ODI career in 24th position after rising six places. McCullum was the third top scorer with 119 runs in the series, which Australia won last week 2-1.
De Kock, who scored 326 runs in South Africa’s 3-2 win over England, has jumped six places to fourth in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen. He now trails compatriot Hashim Amla by just three points.
Root, who collected 351 runs in the series, has rocketed seven places to 10th but his team-mate Alex Hales is the biggest mover. The opener was the leading run-getter with 383 runs, for which he has been rewarded with a jump of 59 places, putting him in 33rd.
Amongst the bowlers in the South Africa-England series, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Kyle Abbott, and Moeen Ali of England have made big strides.
Rabada took nine wickets and, as such, has moved up 36 places to 13th, just 15 points behind Ali, who has gained three places and is now in 11th spot after bagging five wickets. Abbott, who was the third most successful bowler with eight wickets, has risen 31 places and is now in 43rd position.
In the New Zealand-Australia series, the home side’s Martin Guptill has finished as the leading run-getter, which is reflected in the latest rankings as he has moved up a place to eighth after scoring 180 runs.
David Warner’s 126 runs in the series has allowed him to move to 15th position (up by three places), Mitchell Marsh’s contribution of 110 runs has resulted in him achieving 35th position after gaining seven places and Grant Elliott is now just outside the top 50 in 53rd spot after aggregating 103 runs.
In the bowlers’ charts, New Zealand Matt Henry has entered the top five for the first time in his career. Henry bagged eight wickets, for which he has earned three places and fourth position in the latest rankings. He now trails Australia’s third-ranked Mitchell Starc by 10 points.
Other bowlers to achieve career-high rankings include Australia’s duo of Josh Hazlewood in 36th (up by 25 places) and John Hastings in 44th (up by five places).
New Zealand’s Trent Boult has held on to his No.1 position and he leads Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan by 32 points.
