Test debutant Shikhar Dhawan slammed a breathtaking unbeaten 168-ball 185, the fastest-ever hundred on debut as India took total control of the third Test at Mohali against Australia on Saturday.
India ended the day at 283 for no loss, with opener Murali Vijay finishing at an unbeaten 83 off 181 balls.

Dhawan, 27 reached his record hundred, off just 85 balls as India still trailed by 125 runs.

Dhawan also broke the record highest individual score by an India Test debutant, by Gundappa Viswanath also against Australia in 1969-70.

Dhawan hit 33 boundaries and two sixes in his innings.

Earlier, Mitchell Starc (99) and Steve Smith stretched Australia's total to 408 as India was frustrated by the tailenders of the visiting side.

For India, Ishant and Ravindra Jadeja finished with three wickets each, while Ashwin and Ojha had two apiece.
