EAP announces squads for November camps
The ICC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Region has announced its squads for high performance training camps that will be held in Brisbane in November.
The camps, for both an EAP Squad and an EAP Emerging Squad, form an integral part of the region's commitment to raising playing standards, and have become an annual fixture in the calendar to try and help improve results in global events. They provide an opportunity to expose EAP's best players to one of the world's best training facilities at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence.
14 players and three coaches have been selected for the EAP Squad, who will gather in Brisbane between 1-6 November, while 16 players have made it to the EAP Emerging Squad between 8-13 November. Both squads will play one Twenty20 game, two ODI format matches, as well as have three training days.
Andrew Mansale and Ipi Morea return for their seventh EAP Squad Camps, although two of the biggest names in the region will be missing as both Rarua Dikana, captain of PNG, and John Ovia, also of PNG, will be focusing on their roles with the U/19 team.
Among the players to watch out for in the Emerging Squad are Villiame Yabaki, an exciting leg spin bowler from Fiji, and Heni Siaka, who has a burgeoning reputation as an excellent opening batsman in Papua New Guinea.
Charlie Burke, ICC EAP Regional Development Officer, said: "Although there will be some familiar faces missing this year, due to their commitments with their respective Under 19 sides, the quality of players selected for the camps in Brisbane illustrates the rising standard of play in the region.
"We have based our selections on players that have performed well at Pepsi ICC World Cricket League, U/19 and bilateral series a chance, as well as introducing some new, promising players to this environment for the first time."
