EAP Emerging Go Down to Scorchers

A group of 'Emerging' cricketers from the ICC East Asia-Pacific Region commenced a high performance camp at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence early this week.

This camp follows on from last week's camp that included some of the region's leading players from Vanuatu, Samoa, Japan, Fiji and the Phillipines.

The young talent on show this week will be put through a similar programme to the more senior players that includes a number of matches against local Australian Clubs.

The first match took place on Sunday against a Sunshine Coast Scorchers XI at Caloundra.

Batting first EAP posted 6/110 from 20 overs. After being in trouble early a great 83 run partnership between Uegaki (Japan) and Nipiko (Vanuatu) steadied the ship. Both played well with Nipiko clearing the pickets a number of times on his way to 49 while Gaki made a well composed 24.

The EAP side bowled and fielded well, consistently taking wickets throughout the innings however the runs were hard to contain on the fast outfield. The Scorchers XI passed the EAP score with 6 balls remaining and 3 wickets in hand. The pick of the bowlers was Teinaki (Cook Islands) who took 3/19 from his 4 overs.

Monday saw the squad carry out fitness testing and education as well as a fielding session under the eye of CoE coach Brian McFadyen. Game two kicks off today against AGS XI at Brisbane Grammar Northgate.
