Eastern Triumph's at Cricket Fiji All Stars
The Eastern Cricket Team compromising of players solely from the Lau Islands carried on from where they left off after day two winning both their matches on day three.
Both the U17 and U19 carried their form through into today's round with the U19's accounting for Western and the U17's for Northern to both be crowned all stars champions.
In the mornings U19 game, Western went into bat and just had no answer to the bowling of Jerry Tawanke who single handily ripped them apart by tacking 4 wickets for 5 runs and resulting in Western being knocked over for only 26 runs in under 13 over's. None of the western batters managed to make any kind of a meaningful contribution.
In reply Eastern took 6 over's to get the required 27 runs led by Jerry Tawanke who now with bat in hand quickly raced to 14 not out.
Albert Park spectators were provided with an afternoon of entertainment as the U17 game between Northern and Eastern was dominated by Eastern's Meyusela Berataki who made a magnificent 91 helping his team to an imposing 227 off their 20 overs.
Cricket Fiji High Performance Manager Steve Jenkin said:
"That was a knock of the highest standards and very impressive, I have seen Meyusela bat on many occasions but this was memorable."
Northerns Jone Kaione with 4/42 was the only bowler to trouble the Eastern batsman.
In reply Northern struggled to 58 all out with Jordan Symonds the sole youngster to get into double Figures. Joji Tabau 4/12 in 4 over's and Ben Tadulala with 4/18 ensuring that Eastern secured a huge 169 run victory.
Trial matches for selection to national age group squads commence at 09:30 am tomorrow with a double header:
