England bowlers come up good to rattle Pakistan on Day 2

England continued their dominance in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan as they leapt to a massive 261-run lead heading into Day 3 at Lord’s.

England began the day at 248/9, and thanks to Josh Tongue’s unbeaten 30 at 11, the home side finished their first innings at 290.

Mohammad Abbas finished with impressive figures of 4/73, while Mohammad Ali chipped in with 3/86.

Pakistan, however, endured a disastrous start in reply, losing Shan Masood in the fourth over before Abdullah Shafique fell for five and returning skipper Babar Azam was dismissed for eight. The visitors were left reeling at 30/3.

Jofra Archer accounted for Masood, while Josh Tongue made his mark by removing Shafique and Babar.

Saud Shakeel followed soon after, with Ollie Robinson striking to send the batter back for a low score.

Opener Azan Awais offered Pakistan a glimmer of hope, top-scoring with 46, but Robinson then tore through the middle order, claiming four wickets for just 11 runs as Pakistan were bowled out for 110.

Archer finished with figures of 3/26, while Tongue joined the wickets column with 2/27, giving England a 180-run lead heading into the second innings.

The home side’s second innings began with two quick wickets falling as Khurram Shahzad sent Ben Duckett and Jordan Cox off successive overs.

Skipper Joe Root began well, but his knock came to a close on 24, courtesy of a beauty from Mohammad Ali that trapped the batter LBW.

England ended the day at 81/3 with a massive 261-run lead heading into Day 3 at Lord’s.
