England confirm playing XI for third Ashes Test

England make one change to their side as they aim to stay alive in the Ashes series.

England have confirmed their playing XI set to take the field against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

The visitors make one change to their side, with Gus Atkinson stepping aside for fellow fast bowler Josh Tongue.

Ben Stokes continues to lead the side, while Will Jacks retains his place in the XI after being included for the second Test in Brisbane.

Playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Will Jacks, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue

This will be Tongue’s first appearance in red-ball cricket for England since their final Test against India at The Oval in July earlier this year, where England lost the Test by six runs in a thriller.

The 28-year-old pacer has bagged 31 wickets in six Tests he has played so far, with five of them coming against Australia in his solitary appearance against them.

England currently trail the Ashes series 2-0 as they aim to keep the series alive in Adelaide beginning on December 17.

Second Test: Gabba, December 4-7 (Australia won by eight wickets)
Third Test: Adelaide Oval, December 17-21
Fourth Test: MCG, December 26-30
